Name: Andy Archer
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Birthday: Spring 4
Occupation: Tourist/Miner(/Amateur Cook)
Personality: Andy is full-throttle and fancy-free, like a bottle rocket that just burst. Things tend to be black or white to him; you're either cool or a jerk, best friends or bitter enemies. He hates rules and being told what to do, and believes that if everybody just let everybody else do what they wanted and stopped trying to insist on things being a certain way and people acting a certain way, that the world would be a happier place and people would be nicer to each other. He is, in the style of his favorite aunt, a self-proclaimed anarchist-- but an AMICABLE one. Considering that, his personal motto is, "Don't be a jerk. And if you're a jerk, then other people have the right to be a jerk right back!" Andy loves people and makes it his personal mission to befriend everyone he comes across, like friendships were Pokemon or baseball cards, and he won't stop until he and the person are friends (or feel obligated to punch each other on sight). He has a very childish view on the world and, when disappointed, will often whine and throw tantrums about how "not cool" things are.
Appearance: Though comparatively short to some of Meadow View's other (FREAKISHLY TALL!!) male towspeople around his age, at 5'9" he is actually above average for his age and weight. Andy spent most of his pre-teen and teen years being compared to a string-bean and, while he's still pretty noodly, approaching his second decade has finally given him at least some kind of muscle definition, which he would happily show off to anyone during a quick swim at the beach. (He's very proud of his no-longer-noodly status.) His typically neon wardrobe, combined with his bright blue eyes and bright yellow hair, tend to make him look like a walking construction sign. This is not helped at all by the fact that his favorite accessory is a bright orange sleeveless jacket, or the fact that, when going on another dig hunt for the secret cave, he tends to walk around with a hardhat and headlight on his head. He retains a boyish sort of attractiveness about him, but one beginning to be tempered with adulthood's more mature solidity.
Background: Andy is a GeoChem/Political Science student at a university in the city, and so only comes out to Meadow View on his Summer (and occasionally Winter) breaks. His parents are both heavily career-oriented professionals and so aren't home during the breaks, just as they were often never home when Andy was growing up. Though never outright negligent, Andy still spent most of his childhood either at the houses of his school friends or all alone at home, because even when home his parents were likely in their studies working. Though his parents' absences often made him lonely, it also made him two other things: unusually rich for a teenager (as he had access to his parents' funds for doing things like buying himself groceries) and unusually independent for his age. He used both of these things to develop his many personal interests, including PC gaming, culinary experimentation, rock collecting (a hobby he shares with his best friend)-- and making homemade fireworks and rockets. Nobody panic, he hasn't blown up anything more lived-in than an empty field since he was eight.
Andy really has only two sources of sobering influence in his life: his best friend Desi, and his aunt. Desi has been his best friend since they met three years ago in high school, and Andy has had to learn how to tamp down on his exuberance and occasional bouts of anger-- to be softer, more patient, as to not scare her into suffering one of the anxiety attacks which constantly plague her. Desi is the one who first told him about Meadow View, as she had visited years before on a family vacation, and told him of a hidden cave she'd found filled with gorgeous geodes. Andy's aunt, who he stubbornly refers to as "The Man," was who he often was shipped out to visit on previous summer breaks and was the one from whom he picked up his interest in political activism. She did her best to give him some sort of structure and sense of parental guidance in his life and so, while he often ironically associates her with rules and being told what to do and not to do, he still considers her the closest thing he has to a parent. Unfortunately, his aunt recently moved away to a different city where she and her partner could have their Best Friend Ceremony recognized as legal, so he no longer has the option of spending his summers with her. That is why he chose to come to Meadow View: as a way to escape the emptiness of his home and the feelings of missing his college friends and his aunt. He hopes to find the cave that Desi told him about and bring back lots of shiny geodes for both her and his aunt.
Likes/Dislikes: Andy really likes food! Since cooking is one of his main hobbies, delicious new dishes and fresh ingredients are some of his favorite presents-- presents he'll often insist on feeding you bits of once he's made them into something fantastic. He is also particularly fond of interesting rocks, fossils, or other geological oddities; either for their own "super cool" merits, or because he can bring them back home and share them with his friend. The thing he hates most in the world are "jerks" who like "bossing people around" or telling people they can't do what they want, but secondly he would probably have to say bugs. He's not a fan of insects. He once dated a girl who owned tarantulas and then one day one crawled up his pant leg and, well, it ended badly, both the situation and the relationship. (Speaking of relationships, Andy is openly bisexual, though he's more used to dating and befriending girls. He prefers friendships to relationships in any case, as he worries that a dating relationship will mean a ruined friendship if it fails.)
