Hey, thought it'd be nice to have a place for the muns to just socialize. Please feel free to delete if this is unwanted!
Hope everyone's day is going better than mine. Work sucks. Part of my job at the gym where I work is to call people who owe money on their memberships and I had to do that part today and got yelled at pretty badly. Seriously, nothing is harder than trying to explain to someone who doesn't want to pay you why they owe you money. I have some friends who are commissioned illustrators (or are trying to become so) and I feel really bad for them having to be the ones to write, send, and explain their own invoices! They're much braver than I am!
How are you all doing? Exciting that the board is open now, right?

Ha ha, yeah; what is it about freelance workers, especially artists, that makes people think they DON'T need to eat or pay rent like the rest of us? Best of luck, buddy. If it's what you love, though...
I'm at work now. Workload is kind of low but at least I'm done with the part where people yell at me. I mean, clearly it's low, if I'm lurking here.
Well I'm sick right now, hehe. Probably got it from the con I went to, since the people I roomed with have it too u_u Also trying to get my journal and that kind of stuff written out so I can get around to the roleplay proper.

Aw man, that sounds rough! People can be such jerkwads, and it's usually to other people who have no control over the situation. It's not your fault they haven't payed!
And sunny, i feel your pain, I'm sick, too!
This forum is so cute, and full of adorable people and characters I've noticed that there are a lot of really good artists, too! Unfortunately, I'm not one of them, but it's awesome to see everyone drawn so well!

GRAPHIC DESIGN IS ALSO A THING I WANT TO DO. With that kind of field, you just have to make sure that pay is agreed upon and something everyone understands is going to happen. Potentially paying half first. I've heard of a bunch of ways to go about it.
Ah, telling people prices is really scary. I work at a print shop and telling people how much things are going to cost can get tense sometimes. Sometimes I'm able to explain why things cost so much or why they should invest in certain kind of printing for their business, but a lot of the time they just want less or want a different kind of printing. I completely sympathize.
I'm waiting around before I have to go to work actually.
Also I'm going to make a Chatbox real quick for quicker conversations because I'm really interested in talking to all of you wink wonk

The chatbox is really nice, Oliver! (She says as she talks to you in it at the same time.)
Aww man, being sick sucks! I hope you guys are getting lots of rest! One of my favorite things to do when sick is to make salty chicken soup with sriracha in it. The salt will kill the bacteria and the sriracha will clear your sinuses, and also taste delicious! Drinking ginger ale (or ginger beer if you can get it) also is nice because it has the same sinus-clearing effect and also tastes great.
Ah oh no I am sorry to hear that people's days haven't been going great. I was like WAY TOO EXCITED about the forum opening and stayed up until four posting and then drawing Natly. But I just got up so I got a lot of rest!
Ahhhhhh everyone's characters are so cute and I want TO RP WITH EVERYONE~! * V *
I want to post but training has left me as exhausted as I predicted. Like wow spending six hours outdoors in 90+ degrees weather can really take the energy out of a person.
Sunny~ It sucks that you're sick right now, but can I ask what con your sick came from? I love conventions. I go to three or four a year myself, I'm such a conrat.
Roscoe~ I'm really lucky that the head of my Graphic Design department is a practicing freelance professional, so he has a lot of really great input on how the market actually works, what you can expect, and how this class is applicable to things you will need to do in the future. So I'm not too worried about the future, but it's still a little bit daunting.

@gabby, yikes! I hope you're drinking lots of water! What are you training for in those conditions, camp counseling?
@claire, you're a conrat? I just got back from Phoenix Comicon! It was actually my first con ever and I got to meet ~~NICHELLE NICHOLS~~ which was pretty magical. Also Andrew Hussie for you Homestuck fans; I picked up the SBaHJ book and had him sign it, best $44 ever spent, it's hilarious and full of Dave's rambling author's notes. But ~~NICHELLE NICHOLS~~!! (<--- giant Trekkie, you have been warned.) The GF and I also cosplayed as Agents Scully and Mulder and had a fun X-Files photo shoot, so overall I'd say, A+ first con experience.

@alana: Yeah, I'm a junior counselor at a pretty big Y camp in my area, so we have to do a lot of training beforehand. Today we did eight hours of little specialized lectures and games and things, and yesterday there was just a bunch of ice breakers and introductions but we were walking around quite a bit and there is no air conditioning anywhere. It is worth it though, their programs are really first-rate.
P.S. Good pick with the X-Files cosplay. Such a great show.

@gabby: Sounds pretty fun, though! The gym I work at has a summer camp going on right now but since I do office work I'm in the back for most of it. Camp counselor sounds like a fun job, though! (And thanks, though we actually already did our cosplay! I'll see if I can get the pictures from my friend.)

Gabby, I'm a camp counselor, too! I worked at a Y camp the last two summers, though I'm working at a girl scout camp this summer. Which camp do you work at, if you don't mind my asking? I worked in the San Juans, at Orkila. I'm a horseback riding instructor.
@ari: Camp Combe! It's really nice and a great environment, but the one you worked at seems to have a lot more programs than ours does. I'm not a specialist of any sort, though; I'm just a JC.
@alana: It is fun! Most of the kids aren't too much trouble, and there are different programs (e.g. soccer, tech, theater arts) for people with different skills that a lot of people like. There's a lot of variations, which is great! (I know, I was just complimenting your good taste in characters!)
(sorry I took so long, my computer crashed halfway through writing this for an unknown reason)

@claire: Anime Boston. It's the first con I've gone to in years so of course I get sick, haha. I'm not really into anime (that isn't to say i'm completely done with it) & webcomics anymore, so I mostly just went because some great RP partners I know in a group were going and the timing was good. Not entirely sure it was the con itself since my boyfriend and I wandered Boston for 3 days prior to the con (which meant we used its buses and subway system which is just asking to get sick) but one of our roommates is sick too so I wonder? I'm hoping we didn't just end up giving her it since my BF and I both have it right now :I
